"A better politics is one where we spend less time drowning in dark money for ads that pull us into the gutter, and spend more time lifting young people up..." — President Obama in his State of the Union address,
1/20/15
At any moment, President Obama could make a big move to shine a light on "dark money" in politics.
With the stroke of a pen, he can put a stop to unchecked billionaire and big business dollars that have flooded the airwaves with wildly inaccurate and negative ads with an executive order requiring all federal government contractors to disclose their political spending.
It’s our tax money. We deserve to know how much corporations who get government business are spending — either backing politicians who support them, or attacking those who do not.
We're teaming up with Daily Kos to flood the White House with messages of
support for an executive order on this — can you add your name?
It's no secret — big business is scared. The chief lobbyist of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce vowed that they would fight an executive order "through any means necessary."1
The system is broken for everyone but the corporations themselves. An executive order can bring back our democracy from the damaging effects of secret and shady influence of corporate interests who are only looking out for their bottom line.
Tell President Obama: Put your words into action and sign an executive order that requires federal contracters to disclose their campaign spending.
Thanks for standing with us on this,
