#47Traitors

In an unprecedented move, earlier this week 47 Republican Senators sent a letter directly to Iranian leaders, threatening to blow up any diplomatic deal negotiated by the United States and our international partners. The New York Daily News went so far as to ask if the Republicans who signed the letter were traitors.

Let's be clear, this letter is dangerous, reckless, and disrespectful. The Republican Senators who signed this letter are putting their hatred of President Obama above everything else. Their letter risks pushing us towards a war with Iran. We have to hold them accountable.

Can you take one minute to write a letter to your local paper condemning the Republicans’ letter?

Monday’s letter from 47 senators to Iran wasn't just bad politics -- it was a dangerous attempt to undermine negotiations with Iran. The leader of the letter, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR), has explicitly stated that the goal of congressional action is to make talks with Iran fail.

Newspapers around the country are - for good reason - slamming Republicans for this shocking and dangerous attempt to sabotage diplomacy. Will you take a minute to make sure your local paper is one of them?

As Vox.com puts it, "The mere act of senators contacting the leaders of a foreign nation to undermine and contradict their own president is an enormous breach of protocol. But this went much further: Republicans are telling Iran, and, by extension the world, that the American president no longer has the power to conduct foreign policy, and that foreign leaders should assume Congress could revoke American pledges at any moment."

This time Republicans in Congress have gone too far. We've grown used to Congress making a mess of nearly everything, but now they're risking a war bigger than Iraq and Afghanistan combined, simply to score a political point. We have to tell them that it's time to stop playing politics with Iran nuclear talks.

We need you to write a letter to the editor to show that the American people support diplomacy, not war, with Iran.
